Organic Management of Raspberry Root Rot
نویسندگان
چکیده
PROCEDURES: We conducted two studies to investigate an integrated program for root rot (Phytopthora fragriae var. rubi) control in raspberries that would be useful to organic and conventional growers. These two studies have been carried out on our commercial field of ‘Meeker’ that was established in 1997 on raised beds with drip irrigation. Soil at this site is naturally infested with the root rot pathogen, providing medium-tohigh levels of disease incidence.

Glucanolytic Actinomycetes Antagonistic to Phytophthora fragariae var. rubi, the Causal Agent of Raspberry Root Rot.
A collection of about 200 actinomycete strains was screened for the ability to grow on fragmented Phytophthora mycelium and to produce metabolites that inhibit Phytophthora growth. Thirteen strains were selected, and all produced (beta)-1,3-, (beta)-1,4-, and (beta)-1,6-glucanases. These enzymes could hydrolyze glucans from Phytophthora cell walls and cause lysis of Phytophthora cells. These en...

While fungicides may be a major mechanism for control of avocado root rot, integrated management requires several other non-fungicidal approaches which are used together to maximize root rot control. Non-fungicidal methods of control include planting clean avocado nursery stock, selecting low hazard sites, planting on mounds in more hazardous sites, preventing the introduction of P. cinnamomi, ...
متن کامل1 Pea Root Rot and Results of Variety Evaluations
Root rot is an important and widespread disease that often causes significant reduction in the yield and quality of harvested peas throughout the production areas in New York. Pea root rot can be caused by one of several soilborne pathogens or various combinations of root pathogens and also non-pathogens. In recent years, Fusarium solani f. sp. pisi (causal pathogen of Fusarium root rot) has be...
متن کاملRoot and Foot Rot Diseases of Winter Wheat Grown in Conventional and Organic Systems
The object of the study was fungous diseases occurring on roots, leave sheaths and stem base of winter wheat in the two opposing cropping systems (organic and conventional). The observations were made in vegetation periods (2007-2009) in the fields of winter wheat in northern Poland. Every year on each plot of compared farming systems root rot occurred (Fusarium spp., Gaeumannomyces graminis an...
متن کاملImpacting Phytophthora Root Rot Severity with High Metallic Content Municipal Refuse on Sweet Peppers (Capsicum annuum L.)
The potentials of poultry, farmyard and refuse dump manures for management of Phytophthora root rot on sweet peppers, Capsicum annuum was evaluated in pot experiments under controlled conditions. Five week-old seedlings of pepper varieties were transplanted into heat sterilized soil amended with poultry, farmyard and refuse dump manures at 2, 4 and 8 tons/ha. The pots were arranged in complete ...
